Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success January 17 – Very Good. This is the second day in a row for a nice score and, again, I had to work hard to get there. Lots of things to work around including Larry, the SurveyorBot weekly status meeting, and my poker group.

Yesterday

Yesterday was successful. I managed to get my “yeah, but in my case it’s one or three or five years” point made. Jan said later that she felt blindsided by that. Perhaps she was, if so, it was unintentional. It probably also means that if I’m able to open up over the coming weeks, she will feel blindsided and misunderstood again and again.

I don’t know how to handle that.

Yesterday also included a good amount of time on the bike, icing the leg, and significant discomfort through real pain for much of the day. While “pain” is not the right word, I finally decided to take a big ibuprofen when I got into bed.

Today

If yesterday was busy, today is nuts. Dr. Goldmark at 8 AM, SurveyorBot Risk Board at 10:30, Monika at 1:30, Kristin at 3:40, and SurveyorBot WBS 2.4 and 2.5 at 5. That leaves very little time for exercise, so getting even to “Disappointing” will be a real challenge.

The Future

Tomorrow has Monika at 9, which makes exercise and shower between the end of poker yesterday and having to be reasonably clean tomorrow a bit of a schedule challenge. Then Tony will be here at 3 to, hopefully, get my new computer working at last. We shall see.

Selfie with other pilgrims at the Confraternity of Saint James Albergue San MartínI have begun fiddling with the Confraternity of Saint James website. CSJ also offers credentials and opportunities to volunteer at albergues as a simple helper or hospitalero. There is a very soft spot in my heart for the CSJ because their Albergue San Martín in Miraz was my last hope before having to camp out on July 23rd, 2023. The village was having its annual fiesta and everything was packed, no places to eat or sleep.

My American Pilgrims credential was all that was needed for me to be welcomed to the albergue and the volunteers had exceeded their authority to make me, and the other pilgrims who were there, welcome and comfortable in a very difficult situation. They knew that even the grocery store would be closed so they went shopping so that we would be able to have a hearty dinner while sharing each other’s company.
