Daily Success: January 1, 2023 – The first day of a new year. Somehow, the possibility that I would be walking upright in 2023 had not occurred to me until relatively recently. It seems reasonable to look back a bit to evaluate success on a bit more than a week to week or even month to month basis.

Overall, 2022 was very successful.

The easy metric is weight, with I fought to a draw in 2022. Looking back at last January 1st, my weight is the same within a fraction of a pound.

From there, there is conditioning. That’s a lot harder to measure, but, again, I’m at least holding my own. My spreadsheet shows consistent stretches, steady mileage, and consistent exercise for my core, upper body, and legs. Anecdotally, my mileage looks better (more green) and the other exercise seems more consistent over the last few months than it did last year.

May 15th was a bit of a milestone as I completed my eighth “virtual Camino,” defined as 880 km or 550 miles, that day. Then I completed “number nine” on October 12th! That only took 143 days to do that, an unusually fast pace. Since then, I’ve done 412 km (256 mi) toward virtual Camino number ten (80 days). That would imply a 175 day effort, which is still pretty good and much better than the recent past.

There will be little to report for the rest of the day as family visiting is the entire plan.
