Ruminations On…
Lessons Learned on August 5, 2018: there were five major lessons I learned that first day, lessons that have been an important part of my planning and hiking The Path ever since.
August 5, 2018 – Lesson the First: While I read the line “it’s el Camino, not el Destino” back in 2016, this day’s beginning with peregrinos dashing out of Albergue de peregrinos Santa Ana was the first time I saw the “el Destino” aspect of the Camino. I’ve seen it many times since.
August 5, 2018 – Lesson the Second: Never, ever, let yourself be caught without the makings of your morning beverage and a bit of food. I carry instant coffee, a Gossimar Gear GVP Ultralight Stove System (which does not appear to be available any longer but they have an alternative, which appears to be about the same weight, add an alcohol fuel option, and cost a bit more) to heat water, and energy bars at all times.
August 5, 2018 – Lesson the Third: Be ready to capture the beauty and spirit of el Camino in pictures. Take more pictures, not less (a lesson learned in writing about my experiences rather that while enjoying them).
