Daily Success May 21 accepts that May 20 was a Mandatory Rest Day, a new success category that my fatigue at the end of the day on the 19th forced me to accept. My “every day” approach to both distance and strength had worn me down to the point that a day off, (almost) completely off, was not just good, but necessary.
I’ve adjusted my shared success tracking workbook to include the new system.
Taking a day off is much harder for me when I’m, what, “in the zone”? The worst one, if memory serves, was August 24 2022, a day that I took off for a lot of good reasons but found myself bored and frustrated and generally out of sorts as others set off for somewhere.
Even on a day off, I did walk about 3.4 kilometers or just over 2 miles. I took it very slow (as in 17-minute kilometers or 27-minute miles) and easy (no backpack, no trekking poles).
On the bright side, a lot of chores got done. Importantly, I’m scheduled to see Monika for a laser treatment and physical therapy on my right shoulder Tuesday morning.
Today is off to a good start with stretches on-schedule and upper body strength already done. It will be severely constrained, however, because we have a birthday party to attend in Gettysburg and will add a visit with Elijah to the schedule. That will consume 5 to 7 hours of the day, with the result that I may be forced to use the treadmill, with its 6% incline, to shorten the time I need for sufficient walking distance.
On the bright side, I got my “My Camino Day August 4” 2021 post published. That’s a major step forward. The August 5 post will be even more of a challenge as it includes the Monastery tale. That is a shaggy dog story even by my standards.
