Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statueDaily Success July 5 scored “Failed.” No excuses. I let minor problems distract me into a lot of useless fiddle-faddle. Tomorrow has to get a better score. Plus, tomorrow I will leave for the airport in the early afternoon so there will be few if any “Daily Success” posts for the next six weeks.

It is real. Once again, it is real. Washington to Madrid by airplane, Madrid to Oviedo by train, Oviedo to Cadavedo by bus, and then el Camino de Santiago del Norte on my way to Luarca and, eventually, from Pedrouzo to Santiago. It seems likely that I will arrive there around August first. My wife, and our great friends Julian and Mercedes plan to meet me and join me for the last bit of the hike. Seeing them there and sharing that with them will be a joyous occasion and an appropriate end to my Journey, if end it shall be, because my introduction to el Camino came from Julian in response to my casual question about the people walking near the road a score or so years ago.

I am feeling a strange mix of things. The idea that I will arrive in Santiago if nothing major goes wrong is, somehow, uncomfortable, troubling. For the first time, I seem to be joining those peregrinos for whom the Camino is about a Destination rather than a Journey. It is a chance I do not want to make and a Journey that I do not want to end.

This morning began with some touchups for the BoomSnifferBot white paper that I’ve derived from the SurveyorBot idea. We have a conference call at 10 to discuss it. From there, it will have to be up to Sam and his crew to finalize things and fill out the submittal paperwork (if paperwork is the term) on DARPA’s website.

Much to do. No time to fiddle (-faddle) with this post!
