Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statueDaily Success November 22

Daily Success November 22 – Okay. It was a middling “Okay,” not a barely there. In fact, if I was using increments of “1” instead of increments of “10” as I had originally planned, I would have been on the edge of “Very Good.” Like just a couple more minutes on the bike edge.

I should keep that in mind next time and do it the way that was intended, at least for exercise.

Too much of the day was devoted to SurveyorBot, my bad, and a bit of a social break, poker, which was good except I lost my entire $11 buy-in! That’s never happened to me before, but the cards simply hated me all evening.

Ah, well.

Today

Today is sixty years to the day from November 22, 1963. That gives me a bit of a chill, as that day is one of the “I’ll never forget where I was when I heard” days. “They shot the president.” Then “he’s definitely dead.” The next few days were a fog of sitting in the basement of Alwood Hall watching the black and white TV as the news was reported, the funeral cortege, John-John’s salute. Jackie’s grace and dignity.

Sixty years.

It’s all different now. The folks at dear old Tri(ne) State declared Alwood Hall was too old to keep some years ago, so they knocked it down. Most folks only know of November 22, 1963 as a vague item in the history books, important in the sense that other presidential assassinations were important, but long ago. Hell, only a few of the Tri(ne) State undergrads probably get the Tri-State reference.

Our generation is shuffling off Stage Left at all to rapid a pace. Who will remember? Will anyone even care? Probably “nobody” and “no.”

But today is a day to keep my eye on the real objectives. That includes limiting SurveyorBot and getting books entered into my database. Exercise, too. And a few chores.

The Future

I went to the American Pilgrims website to register for hospitalero training and discovered that the list of acceptable albergues, you must have stayed in at least one, did not include a single albergue on the del Norte. While I’m sure that’s not correct, I emailed the folks in charge to check before I register. I’d hate to put $295 into the effort and discover that I’ve been rejected because the albergue in Cadavedo somehow doesn’t meet the requirement. Or Ernesto’s place. Or the monastery. Or … I mean I’ve stayed at at LEAST 4 or 5 places that should qualify in a heartbeat.

Ah, well. Much to do.
