Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success December 31 – Very Good. That includes some credit for getting the surprisingly challenging Ribadiso volunteer application done for American Pilgrims and taking the “discretion is the better part of valor” approach to my leg strength exercises, gentle on the left knee with an attendant lack of points for three quad specific exercises.

Yesterday

A little after 5 yesterday, it was clear that staying off the Internet for the rest of the day and leaving the whisky in the cupboard would net me a “Very Good.” I managed the Internet Monster part of that, but not the whisky. Fortunately, I finished the Ribadiso application and went back to the gym for “as much as I dared” on the legs.

My biggest accomplishment for the day was deciding (FINALLY!) to go back to South Dakota to be with John on the 8th. Win, lose, or draw, I’ll be there for my boy. The airline tickets are bought and minimal arrangements have been made.

The whiskey slip came with sitting by the fire with Jan. She suggested it and hope flooded forward.

Today

Lots of exercise from lots of football to watch. The Washington Submissives play at 1 PM with the theoretical “quarterback of the future” on the bench as defenses had figured out how to put an end to his apparent success. The guy has a LOT of potential, but a very bad characteristic of holding the ball long after it should have sailed out of bounds.

Other than that, cleaning up paperwork and finishing (I hope) my essay for La Concha.

The Future

Nothing has really changed since yesterday, but I am more hopeful. The fire was nice last night. Jan made it clear that she is planning our pancakes and bacon brunch this morning. My left knee was the least painful it has been in some time, despite me failing to ice it as much as I should have yesterday.

Larry, Dr. Higgins, Dr. Singh, and Monika are all part of Wednesday; I will do little else that day.

The Fates are testing my will, testing it with all their might. I can feel it cracking under their attack.

Tomorrow, we go to Jerry and Anna’s for the New Year’s Day feast. I’m guessing that we will both go. Saturday, I fly to South Dakota to be there for John, but I go alone. The Fates are very powerful.
