Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success February 3 – Very Good. Outstanding was within reach, at least in principle, but I lacked the energy, the strength, to reach it. It is hard to reach and a good motivator.

Yesterday

Yesterday was dominated by the “document how we got here” challenge. That sapped my emotional strength more than is easily described.

That domination acknowledged, I did get good time in the gym, a necessity for a “Very Good” score. It took more than a little determination.

There was also a visit with Monika. She did both the massage and the laser things. My left side from the base of my spine to the sole of my left food felt better as I left the appointment than they have in a long time. Now, if only they would stay that way.

The sciatica, which I see specifically as the sharp hip to foot pain, seems to have backed off. The knee was as good this morning as it has been in many weeks and better than yesterday, if only by the thinnest of margins. The piriformis, which I identify as the dull pain in my lower back and leg when I’m walking, has not shown up this morning, but the day is young.

Today

Today has two featured events: lunch with Ty after far too long without seeing him; and a dinner date with Jan. Ty and I will walk all the way to Panera Bread, perhaps half a kilometer (0.35 miles), which will be the longest outdoor walk I have attempted in months. For Jan, I will be cooking a pasta dish based on cherry tomatoes and feta cheese that we both enjoyed a great deal. After that, we will watch The Way in the basement TV room.

I’ve seen the first part of The Way and found myself focusing on the Camino setting for the story rather than the story. I’m looking forward to watching the whole thing and (possibly) focusing on the story instead of scenes of the Camino. Not sure how that will work out.

The purpose of dinner and the movie, however, is not to enjoy the movie; it is to share some pleasant time with Jan. We do that far too little these days.

The Future

I plan to have the injection next Wednesday despite the sciatica having gone back into hiding (it’s probably a trick to get me to led down my guard) over the last couple days and having to pay the $500 out of pocket.

Ruben of American Pilgrims reached out to me to let me know that they’re going to keep me in mind as a host for the Spanish delegation to the Gathering and will see that I get some time with them in any event. The result of that is that I’ve brought Rosetta Stone, my log in to the course I bought and studied diligently some years ago, up on my browser …
