Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success July 16 – Disappointing. And that was after another busy and truly productive day, just a day with too many other things involved.

Yesterday

Daily success yesterday came from reasonable, but far from good, exercise. Legs and rehab were good, calorie burning was not. The leg efforts, which include an exercise I kind of invented of climbing the stairs two at a time any time I have to go up, angered my left knee so that ice was needed at bedtime.

Other duties as assigned included an excellent “path forward” discussion with Tim, some chores, and getting a really good first draft of “My Camino Day July 28 to August 2 2021 finished up. A significant part of that was made easy by what I had done on My Camino Journal 2021, but the roadblock was picking some photos. I also have a few videos that I’ll have to check, but that may—emphasis MAY—get finished today.

I made real progress on my book collection as well. The fun part is another large VJ Books order that I must finish up. They are closing and a lot of books I want are available at extremely discounted prices. The “doing it right” part is cleaning my database up and getting 56 of them properly placed—by order of publication date— in our bedroom. Finding duplicates and “ordinaries” that are superseded by “collectables” has been a major task and I have full banker’s boxes that are now ready to go to Second Story Books; my credit there is building and the time will come when I can exchange that for a new—or really old—book that I actually want at this point.

Today

Daily success today is going to be tied, once again, to discipline. I simply must not let myself go wandering through the rabbit warren that is the list of things that will be fun—including more progress on my book collection—or chores that can be cleaned up quickly—a run to Giant for what I need—without turning them into a time sink—deciding that I want to experiment with a new recipe that will take a lot of time I don’t quite have yet.

That said, I must go to Giant to arrange for medications while in France. Only one prescription will require any real advance, so that should be quick and easy.

The Future

Daily success in the future continues to look bright. My chat with Tim yesterday produced a clear path forward that puts what I choose to do entirely in my own hands as long as I stay in my own lane, so to speak. That is another of those rabbit warren places and the key to success is to start out with a clear goal with stated success criteria and a reasonable schedule for accomplishing it. And financial budget, of course. But that will be just how many of my otherwise unfunded hours I choose to put into the work between now an getting home from hospitalero training and thereafter. It will be interesting work that I enjoy doing, a hobby that has some specific, if somewhat distant, financial benefits that come with it.
