Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success April 13 – Failed. I don’t think I even tried to do better.

Yesterday

Yesterday was as unproductive as a day can get. It started with enjoying the conversation at Cliff’s thing at the Brewhouse and continued with the full physical therapy appointment at Dr. Higgins’ office. Add in two naps, both of which seemed inescapable and were probably needed due to a poor night’s sleep due to continued pain, and a lot of the day was gone before I knew it.

There was one bright spot: the physical therapist’s face when she asked me to move my arm in specific ways as she measured my progress. I know I’m ahead of the curve, but it’s fun to see a look of disbelief as I casually raise my arm to the requested position. To be honest, it did hurt more than a little bit and I admitted that when she asked.

I did make one half-hearted attempt at the bike but had no strength.

Today

Today will be better. I had a better night’s sleep. There are no appointments or meetings or events to pull me away from my “pull myself together” efforts, although I am still tired from the demands of the last week and change.

The main tasks for today include reviewing Jon’s drafts of the patent disclosures, signing up for the hospitalero training waiting list, and making some decisions about the next UMGC term. It seems I was looking in the wrong place for courses, but I don’t know what I was doing wrong.

The Future

The future is shaping up.

Monika for the first post-surgery appointment on Tuesday. My hope is that she can get my walking distance back where it needs to be. I’m also going to ask for her opinion on seeing Dr. Swistak a time or three as I’m wondering whether my back may be involved a bit.

Jon has the patent material well in hand, so we can think about next steps as soon as that is filed. Hospitalero training is the end of May / first of June, just 3 days and the weekend, so that won’t interfere with anything. The next UMGC term is May 15 through July 9, so if I can find a course that’s interesting, I can do that; no major travel plans are likely to crop up between now and then.

The fly in the ointment, of course, is my daughter. She’s doing better than she was when I dashed off to Ohio, but she’s far from 100%. The medical folks say things will be fine with a little time, but one worries. Not having travel plans, no Camino this summer, is probably a good thing at the moment.
