Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success December 19 – Okay. And that “Okay” is only because I went back to the bike to push just a hair further last evening as the more rigorous aspect of my updated system had me in the broad “Disappointing” range. I’m finding that it’s fair, but unforgiving.

Yesterday

Yesterday included the last details of the Christmas Cards (at the moment) and a modest, but significant, effort finishing off the laundry … except for folding the things that don’t go in the dryer.

The exercise shortfall was simple. Every time I got on the bike, my legs rebelled. They all but screamed “you can’t make me do this” with a feeling of exhaustion that I could not shake. Neither Wondrium nor Monday Night Football was able to get them rolling and every rev on the pedals seemed just shy of impossible.
I also had to take a nap. Just plain tired. Perhaps more than a little depressed.

Zero whisky seems relatively easy (4 or the last 5 days), but I need something as I’m lying there waiting for my brain to slow. Mints seem to be plenty. It might be time to buy Tic Tac stock.

Today

This afternoon will be busy. Allen at his office at 1 PM, Larry via his virtual link at 4 PM, and the SurveyorBot tag-up via Zoom at 5 PM. No wonder I can’t get any work done. Allen is very important. The SurveyorBot tag-up is kind of important. Larry is truly critical. Janis and I have to find a workable way forward from here.

But beyond those things, my main tasks for today are to (1) get my arrival at Pasajes de San Juan PowerPoint video done and uploaded to my YouTube channel; (2) get my exercise in somehow (after Allen but before Larry?); and get my work plan for SurveyorBot organized for the next couple weeks.

The Future

John and Thad arrive for the Christmas week tomorrow afternoon. That will occupy much of my life between now and the 28th when they depart. Then we have the New Year’s Day feast at Jerry’s on January 1st. Little will be accomplished between COB today and January 2, 2024.

How the hell can 2024 be part of the very short-term plan?

I heard back from American Pilgrims about volunteering at Ribadiso. A call will be coming out this month with applications due by the end of January. Volunteers only, no spouses, etc. My current leaning is to pick a promising half month in May or September and go for it. Experience shows that the time alone is good for our ability to make things work. Given the givens, the earlier period might be much more useful to us than the later date.
