Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success December 8

Daily Success December 8 is “Failed.” That’s not just a little bit failed, that’s totally failed.

Yesterday

Even tiny things got lost in my mental fog. Stretches. Weighing myself. Doing Nabila’s mail. All just lost in the fog that had no obvious cause. I was just lost.

There were some tiny pluses. I got started on the photos for my Christmas letter, which should be done by now. I finished tidying up the Library. That tidying, however, included just hiding a lot of stuff for later. Not good. Not good at all.

When I weighed myself this morning, the number on the scale was 75 kilograms (165.4 pounds). That is the highest number since May and up a solid two kilograms (4.4 pounds) since August. The reasons are easy to identify: eating and drinking (especially drinking) too much, exercising too little.

Today

Jennifer, A, and the Coops arrive sometime this afternoon. That is wonderful news. The challenge is going to be keeping the house tidy from then until after the party tomorrow. Even better, it will be to improve the situation!

Part of the solution is going to be to eat out for dinner tonight (Brews and Barrels?) and breakfast (Neal’s Bagels?) tomorrow. Another part of the solution is going to be for me to get my head working properly today and keeping it focused. And another part of the challenge is going to be thawing the two turkeys that are in the garage. They were fully frozen, and the temperature has not been particularly helpful for thawing.

The Future

There is real clarity for two days: a full high-stress, maximum joy day tomorrow getting all the food ready. That will be an all-day process with two turkeys and lots of other stuff aimed at keeping the table groaning under the load from about 1 PM until late evening. It will be wonderful!

Sunday morning is less obvious, but more of the same. Jan has her volunteer effort in late morning, we’ll have the family group still here, and the house will be a mess from Saturday. Chaos will be available if we don’t find a better solution.

Beyond noon Sunday, who knows? Jennifer and crew will be on their way home, Jan will be finished with her class, and the mess will be at least partially cleaned up.

I must get my focus back for Sunday noon! Exercise must return to a high level; drinking must slow down a lot. Eating a bit as well.

I’m seeing Monika on Monday and Thursday. How effective will those appointments be? Hope remains, confidence is low enough that I am unable to fantasize about returning to the Camino next year.
