Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success February 14 – Very Good.

Daily Success Yesterday

Success yesterday came at a heavy price. I walked to Nabila’s, then to Giant for a total of a hair under five kilometers (3 miles). It was heavy going on a very cold and windy afternoon, which was exhausting. Worse, my left knee simply could not handle it and ended up so stiff and painful that even the no impact stationary bike was impossible late in the evening.

The only good news was that I finally finished the Project Pinecone patent material for Jon. With luck, that’s done and close enough to what he needs to have the major load off my shoulders.

Success Today

Success today begins with how much my left knee will allow. A brief test on the bike, no shoes and only a couple revs of the pedals, says that it will work there. “Activities of life,” things like putting on my pants, seems ok, but no socks as yet. The knee is definitely still mad at me.

From there, well, focus. First is to review Jan’s cut at the Finance Plan, which is now renamed. That will take much of the morning. From there, well, we shall see what seems feasible.

Success in the Future

Success in the future is going to have to include facing facts on the knee. It’s not getting any better and it’s not going to. I almost certainly qualify for a knee replacement, but I surely don’t want one. A year of rehab is such an obstacle to living my life as I want to, yet the limitations the knee is putting on me are an obstacle as well. And growing in size rather than shrinking as would the limits imposed by rehab.

A visit with Dr. Higgins is clearly in order. And probably a referral to a surgeon who does that surgery. But not today. Nothing is going to be added that will put San Martín at risk.

The rest remains bright.

Jan is now fully engaged on Project Pinecone. Lise is as well. Paul is becoming more so. Steve, who has been hors de combat for a bit due to work and health issues, seems ready to get more involved.

The rest? My knee put my fantasies of starting the Catalán Way to rest. They were silly fantasies just like the Silly Love Songs McCartney sang of. Pretty, oh, my, yes. But a year away at best. San Martín awaits. Meeting Mae Ling in Barcelona is on both our calendars. The important stuff, Pinecone and el Camino and family, are all bright indeed.
