Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success February 4 – Disappointing. It would have been “Okay,” just about exactly in the middle of the range, too, had I not gotten distracted and failed to post my “Daily Success February 3” post. ¡Soy idiota!

Yesterday

Yesterday was, again, dominated by working to straighten out the situation with Sam. I succeeded in finishing a draft, albeit in a bit of a hurry because I had invited Jan to an in-home date. The plan was for me to cook dinner and then the two of us watch The Way, a movie set on el Camino de Santiago.

Dinner (a simple pasta with a rustic sauce recipe that is really good) and the movie worked out wonderfully.

The movie The Way was, for me, two different things. The first, el Camino. Despite the story taking place on the Frances instead of the del Norte, the vistas and lingering shots of people hiking, of hostels, of backpacks, of people sharing a wondrous experience, and individuals growing through its power were like crack to a cocaine addict. The story, which tugged at my heartstrings for reasons that are both clear and opaque to me, didn’t matter and that was for the best as it seemed a bit forced and had a lot of flaws even viewed through my distinctly rose-colored glasses.

Today

Today is a free day, save for our weekly “Pancake and Bacon” breakfast ritual and a few chores. Hopefully exercise and other Camino related efforts will dominate the hours.

The Future

My good friend Ty is very active with the climbing community. Now USA Climbing has announced that the national team trials will be here in Gaithersburg next month … on exactly the same days as the Gathering and my (hoped for) hospitalero training. Thus, I must disappoint my friend, who would love for me to attend to see his volunteer efforts in action, entirely if I’m accepted off the waitlist for hospitalero training.

Go figure.

I am also reminded that spring break, which is when A will be visiting, is a very busy time for college campus tours, so I must get that set of arrangements done today as well. Don’t want to get shut out because I procrastinated.

And, of course, there is the question of physical ability that hangs over everything. My knee is a bit more swollen this morning than it was yesterday. That’s a real disappointment. And makes the hospitalero training all the more important to my spirit.
