Daily Success February 8 – Okay. I missed “Very Good” by the slimmest of margins and creative scoring (pain that makes it impossible to walk any distance on the treadmill, apparently a side effect of my sciatica shot) would allow me to add the single point needed if I wished. But I didn’t achieve the score and I’m not just handing it to myself.
“Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Yoda.
Yesterday
Yesterday saw too many hours on … you guessed it! Sam.
Despite my reservations on Tuesday, he actually sent a written offer that inched toward success, so I had to spend real time reading it carefully and making the changes that I see as necessary. He is still trying to avoid paying me what he is going to have to pay me and the more he struggles, the more I’m going to demand. I’d rather end this for everyone than give him any breaks he works so hard to gain without earning them.
Great news yesterday! American Pilgrims has selected me to help with hosting the folks from Spain during the Gathering. I’m really starting to look forward to it and have been doing a half hour of Rosetta Stone each day. I find that both straightforward as I understand a lot more from the other “stuff” I’ve taken over the years, e.g., Wondrium, and familiar as I’ve looked at these pictures and listened to these words many times. It’s also harder, however, because I just don’t get the practice I need to build my skills so knowing academically that what Rosetta Stone is showing me is a verb conjugation is far from being able to use it reliably. That’s practice with a real human being in conversation, not memorization or general study.
Today
Today must begin with finishing my rework of Sam’s proposal and getting it to Allen. Jan is looking at it now; I’ve asked for comments on substance only.
We also have Ben Franklin Plumbing, or one of the local franchises to be more precise, coming by between 10 and 2 for a “plumbing inspection. I don’t know exactly what that is to produce, but my guess is that they are hoping for needed repairs such as leaking faucets.
The water heater is way past its expiration date and showing signs of age. Part of the inspection is to flush it out, so that may bring its performance back to normal. We shall see.
There is also Nabila’s mail and, probably, a trip to Giant. All by car.
The Future
The dull pain I associate with piriformis problems was back in full force last night and remains notable this morning. That may limit my treadmill time severely and push everything onto the bike. Today is also Upper Body Strength according to my exercise rotation, but my right shoulder is barking rather loudly and is likely to limit some of that.
But the Gathering is now more than just the Gathering, which was important to start with! I’ll be part of the hosting, albeit appearing to be “Mr. Irrelevant” from the notice email … last spot with a couple people not making the cut. I’m pumped anyway and fully intend to spend at least a half hour per day brushing up on my Spanish.
Monika tomorrow, for more physical therapy and laser treatment for the newly irritated piriformis. Lovely. Just lovely.
