Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success January 31 – Okay. I would have been at the “teeth on the score” edge of Okay without the new scoring system for booze, but by chance that moved me up ever so slightly. Nice!

Yesterday

Yesterday was another day with far, far too much Sam [expletive deleted]. I have grown convinced that his goal is to avoid paying me anything at all. That leads to something akin to rage and interferes with my ability to remain calm and rational.

Yesterday was also very busy with Zooms with Laura and Larry, a physical therapy appointment with Monika, the new termite company (Senate Termite and Pest Control) here on their second setup visit, and poker in the evening. How I managed enough exercise to get to “Okay” is kind of a mystery.

On Senate. When I fired Terminix for cause, my goal was to find a different company to provide the services I thought I was getting from them. Senate costs less, so my expectations were somewhat limited. My impression at this point, however, is that the job Senate is doing is far more extensive, far more thorough, than that done by Terminix, witness the technician yesterday asking us to move everything away from the garage walls by a minimum of 2 feet and call for a return visit. That’s a totally new thing and impresses me as a more thorough job. It’s early, but this change looks like a home run.

Today

There is nothing on the schedule for today, which will make all other activities much easier. They include, but are not limited to, documenting the history of Sam’s [expletive deleted] and what I own, chores such as some laundry, exercise, and getting that August 4, 2018 PowerPoint finally finished. We shall see.

The Future

My visit with Monika yesterday highlighted how murky the future is. She measured the flexibility of my left knee both before and after the physical therapy and laser treatment for my left leg, leg really isn’t enough as it includes the hip where the piriformis muscle is, but there’s no real term, either. It’s my butt, the outside of my thigh, and my knee that are involved in the pretty extensive effort.

But the before and after measurements were significantly different. More to the point, my whatever the term should be, felt better and far more flexible. This gives me hope.

At the same time, so much else is static. No word on hospitalero training, no fantasy developing for hiking this summer, no clues about how the things beyond my control will line up to define the boundaries of that will limit my choices. And, of course, there is now the “always” issue of the uncontrollable effects of age as my 79th birthday comes into view.
