Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statue

Daily Success July 17 – Disappointing. And that lofty status only because I gave myself 20 injury points.

Yesterday

Daily success yesterday suffered from the same problems that daily success has faced for a week or so now. Lots of very purposeful activity on my part with progress on “My Camino Day July 28 to August 2 2021” but no posting; some exercise, but mostly wrapping my left knee with an ice pack and taking the unapproved (by Dr. Friedman) ibuprofen; more on my books; some real steps, albeit small ones, on moving forward on SAGEbot and SurveyorBot; and all such stuff.

I did get my airline tickets purchased for hospitalero training. Connections into Cedar Rapids are very limited and the price was higher than expected.

Poker last night was the last nail in the disappointing performance for the day coffin.

Camino preparation was totally inadequate. The good news is that my left knee seems to be responding to rest and ice, so today is going to be another poor day for exercise. Maybe I’ll be able to get going again on Thursday with Nabila’s mail as my Village “good deed,” but, like yesterday, today is not going to be filled with physical activity.

Today

Daily success today depends on keeping a focus on the main goals, one of which is to establish an end condition for my SAGEbot and SurveyorBot efforts that will define success. Then I can get to work. Some physical therapy and exercise looks pretty reasonable, but being gentle with the left knee is the key to success for the rest of this week.

The Future

Daily success in the future looks very promising. The path forward on SAGEbot and SurveyorBot should be fun and require reaching out to a lot of people I like looking for advice and counsel. That’s already started, but it will continue with a lunch with Chetty on Monday that should be a major pleasure. France is in only slightly more than two weeks, and we are in full preparation mode. Hospitalero training is something I’m really looking forward to, with an eye to possibly serving at the Confraternity of Saint James albergue in Miraz, Albergue San Martín, next summer. My stay there in 2023 remains a highlight of my life. If that doesn’t work out, however, there are a number of others where having an opportunity to give back just a little bit would be just as fabulous, starting with the Monasterio de Zenarruza, another highlight of my life rather than a highlight of my days on the Camino.
