Daily Success for an elderly peregrino is symbolized by this statueDaily Success May 29 managed an “Okay” by the thinnest of margins and only because of an all-out effort to get some exercise done in a scant hour and at the last possible moment. Why?

Well. As Jack Benny might have said.

Oddly enough, the weather was a factor. Incoming rain mandated work on the upstairs porch, which consumed some time. Chores that had accumulated, our weekly “Pancake and Bacon Day” brunch, a few time-consuming email strings, and more work to support Elijah were also factors. Finally, there was a hard cut-off at 7 PM because of our monthly “Old Guys Zoom” event.

One chore that took a lot of time and can be (sorta) counted toward el Camino was organizing my medications. I have eight prescription medications plus three over the counter supplements that are a major factor in my ability to keep going as I do. I organize them into a set of AM / PM pillboxes every couple of months. That takes a significant amount of time in the best of circumstances. Yesterday, the pillboxes went past my scheduled departure date of July 6th AND that demanded starting the planning for those prescriptions that will go with me to Spain. That meant not just doing the pillboxes, which is time consuming, but also conducting and inventory of what medications remained. Happily, VERY happily, only two of the prescriptions and one of the over-the-counter medications have to be refilled before their nominal dates, something that should be easy for the folks at Giant pharmacy.

One of the results of all the medication sorting and inventorying effort was that all but those three items are now packed and ready to be put into my backpack to head for Spain on July 6th. That was a MAJOR step forward that does not count on my success scoring system.

Today has a very limited chore list to take care of. While Jan is going to visit Elijah, I am not going along. The upstairs porch is simply off-limits as light rain is expected all day, with the rest of the week looking so-so.

The week has some things already on the list as I have to retrieve the Lexus and the pendulum wall clock have to be retrieved from their respective repair shops. Then I leave on Saturday to take A on his first college trip; next week will be driving and Airbnb places and walking on campuses rather than my exercise routine, so the Daily Success ratings are likely to be ugly.

But enough of this. It’s time to get really rolling for the day.
